KDDI's EZWeb mobile Internet service temporarily paralyzed

TOKYO, Jan. 5 (Kyodo) - The EZWeb Internet service for mobile phone users offered by DDI Corp., a major telecom carrier better known as KDDI, was temporarily disrupted from Thursday night through early Friday morning due to a computer malfunction at a network center, KDDI officials said.

The disruption, which lasted for about six hours from 9 p.m. on Thursday, affected about 119,000 of the 1.2 million subscribers of the Web service in the Kanto region centering on Tokyo and the Chubu region in central Japan, the officials said.

However, users were still able to make and receive regular voice calls from their handsets during the disruption, which was triggered by a fault in the company's network center in the city of Kashiwa in Chiba Prefecture, they said.
