Interview with Michael Dell, this may have been posted but can't remember, especially after today!

LT: Does Dell have any plans to grow in the area of
networking products?

Dell: The history of large computer companies like HP
[Hewlett-Packard Co.], IBM, and Digital [Equipment
Corp.] in the networking business is that basically they
didn't succeed relative to more focused companies like
Cisco [Systems Inc.], 3Com [Corp.], and Bay Networks
[Inc.].

Our approach is, instead of trying to compete with those
companies, to partner with them. So you see Dell with a
very strong alliance with 3Com and in fact we sell a lot of
3Com products. We don't have any intentions of getting
into that business.
