Sarmad,

So how do we deal with the many hundreds of thousands killed by Saddam? Are we so afraid to act that to spare some innocents (which will always happen) we let the carnage continue?

Are you arguing that Saddam somehow reformed and no killing was still happening?

The difference between the two - is Saddam and the Baathists TARGETTED the civilians, in the case of the Kurds - its called genocide or more recently 'ethnic cleansing'. In the second case its a regrettable error. Never justifiable to the boy or any surviving family.

Reminds me of the police issue we see in hostage situations. If they intervene and someone gets killed - they are trigger happy. If they negotiate too long and the hostage dies they are wimps.
