TOKYO (Nikkei)-Nihon Sun Microsystems KK will market a Japanese-English network computer, called Java Station, starting in June, company sources said Thursday.
Nihon Sun, a wholly owned subsidiary of U.S. Sun Microsystems Inc., plans to sell the new machines, which run on the Java network language, for specific applications like reservation and data-entry systems.
The network computers are equipped with a 100 mHz 32-bit microprocessor and are expected to retail for 99,800-152,000 yen, depending on the type of memory chips installed. Regular network terminals don't have memory chips or floppy disk drives because they can receive Java software via the network.
The company will also market network management software, called Netra j 2.0, for 260,000 yen, which will reduce PC system maintenance costs by several thousand dollars a year. With the software, new programs can be installed and existing programs can be more easily updated.
