Jeff,

MS Word was a killer ap, and improved on the WP workhorses of the day, but conceptually it was not a new kind of mousetrap, just a more feature rich mousetrap. And, I'm not sure if it originated entirely at Microsoft. The new kinda Mousetrap came with PageMaker.

Excel, originally known as Multiplan to the Macophiles, was a knock-off of VisiCalc. Again, the mousetrap had more features, but did not push the curve of originality. Plus, Bill Gates used Apple's naivet‚ [in collaboration with Apple to produce Multiplan] to gain advanced knowledge of the yet to be released Macintosh OS and produce his own knock-off, Windows for MS-DOS. Then, at the release date for the Macintosh and Multiplan, he witheld Multiplan from release as an extortion tactic to get Apple to kill MacBASIC, which competed with MS-BASIC.

Even MS-Works is a knock-off of AppleWorks, though money may have changed hands over that one.

I hear that Office '98 rules.

Well, since I'm in @ 24 that seems to be the resistance. Go figure!

Have a nice Apple blossom Spring!
