Alternative/parallel universe theories that I've head of, that actually have some very minimal details in scientific theory. Include both "universes" that are really just physically very far away (enormously further then the edge of what we would normally consider our universe, with their own separate big bang; and separate "branes" in some version of string theory. Neither has any actual evidence, there just cases of speculation where the math works out. The evidence for the big bang is reasonably solid, but if something like either of those, or some other version of an alternate/parallel universe exists then life could exist that wouldn't be effected by a big bang, big crunch, or heat death, in the universe we experience.
