Hi Mark,
Appreciate your comments re the AAPL/GVIL 'rumor' and the supporting consensus of the SI board. The short term consensus "it's a red herring" and would have a negative effect on our AAPL investment.
I'm not a 'Wall Street Savvy' investor but I know a good thing when I see it and believe AAPL products are the future today. I came to SI to learn and compliment my stock market '101' knowledge.
Some of my reasoning for posting my question and assuming an AAPL acquisition of GVIL would have a positive effect on the already upward movement of AAPL is as follows:
1. An acquisition, with the intent of decreasing expense/increasing net profit through horizontal integration, of a company that produces products (telecommunications devices) AAPL presently is out sourcing, IMHO, would be viewed as positive.
2. MacWorld (4/98) reviewed fourteen 56K modems and Global Village was one of their recommendations rating 4 ****. I know from past experience and articles I've read about Global Village in MacWorld, MacWeek and past MacUser that their modems have always complimented the Mac.
3. In light of all that AAPL is doing to bring more $$$ to the bottom line, the press accentuates the negative (defensive strategy) and airs 'chopping up of the company' press. They ignore the positive (offensive strategy) of AAPL products/marketing etc. (even the 87% increase in stock value YTD). I viewed the 'rumored' acquisition, if it took place, of GVIL as an AAPL offensive strategy of demonstrating the strength in AAPL's resolve.
Hoping to see 25 on Monday...
Yours truly,
Dennis
