Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM) Chief Executive Cristiano Amon touted the prospects of generative artificial intelligence and its impact on the world at the company's annual shareholder meeting, calling it a "revolutionary" development in the tech industry.
"We believe the impact will be significant as Gen AI applications become indispensable companions and business enablers," Amon said in prepared remarks at the shareholder meeting.
Since applications like ChatGPT and others took the world by storm in late 2022, generative AI has been focused on the data center, resulting in unprecedented demand for GPUs, largely from Nvidia ( NVDA). Qualcomm is trying to change that and bring generative AI capabilities to the smartphone via its Snapdragon X Elite, as well as the PC.
"This year will be an inflection point for the PC industry with the arrival of next-generation PCs and a redefined Windows experience featuring Copilot, an AI companion that intelligently adapts to your needs," Amon continued.
Other opportunities
Outside of generative AI, Amon touched on other areas of growth seen as crucial for Qualcomm, including spatial computing via its Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 offering, as well as opportunities in networking, broadband and automotive.
Qualcomm shares have gained more than 18% year-to-date and 36% over the past year. |
