The problem with NOVL is they do not have a direction. No clear policy on Internet, Intranets and how to take on the competition. They have been too focused and worried on returning to profitability in the short run (esp. after Wordperfect debacle and the NT Assault).

Now where corporate internal networks are concerned, NOVL's products (managewise, groupwise, intranetware etc.) face competition not just from MSFT, but more so from Lotus, NSCP and others. The market share of their competitors is increasing by the day whereas that of NOVL's keep on decreasing. NOVL would be very lucky to maintain a chunk of their existing customers.

New equipment purchasers are ignoring NOVL. They are going in for other competitors's products. Neither NOVL nor it's existing products are making themselves appealing or offer competitive advantage over other rivals.

All this however does not mean the company does not have the potential. Yes they do have the ingredients to make a comeback but the battle is going to be tough and only the fittest will survive. Only time will tell if NOVL is such a good buying oppurtunity at this price.

I will wait for atleast the next 3 qtrs befor jumping on NOVLs stock to see how they fare.
