Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé!

yeah well...

just a glorified (by the media and the snobs) regional ordinary wine...

the tradition is... how soon after it has been vinified and bottled can it be drunk.... :)

hence by definition NOT a wine for any cellar

an ordinary wine is a wine that most people drink as an every day wine to enjoy their fruits of their cooking... (or someone else's)

the wine is from *of all places* burgundy, where some of the most expensive wines originate... then again, thise would be the pinot noir grape, whereas the grape for beaujolais is gamay (different from the gamay-beaujolais used in california).

a nice party wine... i remember ages ago, drinking it with my friend steve in the cavernous looking restaurants of knightsbridge in Beauchamp Place. it was easy for him as he owned 4 restaurants and a night club.

one of the nicest things about drinking such wine was that it was (and probably still is)... light, (though little flavor *other than a fruity fruit one* and one that --> thanks to the media, easy to impress people with... (ah and in those days... cheap -as it ought to be)

unfortunately... as time went on...it became the fad of drinking it as soon as it was produced... and those drinkers of this wine in new york demanded it hence the high price (relative to what it is *a mere fad*) because air freight would ad to its cost.

i suppose the vignerons of beaujolais are master marketing whizes to create such demand for an ordinary wine.... particularly if the word... 'nouveau' is inserted ahead of the its name... still... an ordinary table reginal wine...

and yes...i suppose that thanksgiving must have helped the november release of the wine.

in summary... a nice light red, but highly over-rated (and over-priced vin ordinaire) *smile*

more details....
