I imagine many of the remainder will use the check to pay down their credit cards, and convince themselves they're not spending it. Then over a few months that freed-up credit will slowly burn its way out of their pockets.

I'd guess probably more than 1/2 will be spent eventually.

Not enough to change the big picture, but maybe it will smooth the pain a bit.
