Beak up of relationship between Cisco and Alcatel is bad news at this time, but is it a surprise? Alcatel will have to enter at soe point some of Cisco business. Cisco business is too big to ignore, and keeping the partnership would mean that Alcatel would only provide limited value for ever, such as opening the doors at Telcos outside the US.
Cisco does not need Alcatel anymore. And Alcatel needs to get into this business at least partly. The timing nad conditions are the key. I still believe that Alcatel will make anacquisition. I thought that 3Com despite their partnership with Siemens would be a nice target, but now it is far too exxpensive. I think only samll players where Alcatel can leverage their innovative edge thanks to its worldwide network would make sens.
I have no idea whoit could beat this point. Or when... not now for sure.
