I only watch women's basketball when UConn is playing, and then maybe a few games at tournament time, so I'm no authority. That being said, UConn, like Tennessee in the past, has established itself as the premier program by far. Their girls go on to also be top picks and stars in the WNBA. So now you have this profit motive (like with the men's game) to join a team that wins so you'll be seen more on TV. Everyone says Geno (Auriemma, UConn coach) is the real deal. He doesn't allow you to slack off whether in practice or in a blowout, which is why they blow teams out early (then slow the pace down, not the intensity). Each year they get the top HS All-Americans and reload. But Duke and Kentucky on the men's side are no different other than the number of boys playing the sport in HS is much greater making it hard for any one team to dominate.
