Oh, Ionesco! You are really, really lazy! I mean about kitchen things. I agree that scones are sort of a luxury item, nothing one would need to provide. If a family member is very, very hungry, there is always cereal and milk, for survival. Scones are for self-indulgence, and why provide them if they are not easy to make, you might say! But really sifting takes just a few seconds. Back in the wagon train days of my childhood, everyone had a flour sifter because all flour had to be sifted. The point is that sifted flour is a bit lighter. If you do not want to sift, take away a smidgen of the amount of flour required instead. Of course, this would take an intuitive knowledge of baking, and lots of practice as well. On second thought, those mixes are a gift from the kitchen goddess . . .
