Don't install it. As usual Mr. Mark is on the mark. You can also throw out a lot of your software when installing Windows2000 because software generally has to be written with Win2000 in mind if it is to be compatible. And forget about fun stuff like games.

If you had a pressing need for the NT type system you can find out what you can keep and what to replace at this compatibility site:

Clicking the hardware and software compatibility link takes you to this download which will peruse your installed apps and tell you which ones will not work after the switch.

Win2000 upgrades Windows NT, but definitely not an upgrade for Win98. It is a solid switch to a nice bullet proof business class system - but only if you need that enough to put up with gotchas.

Someone meant well, but gave you Pandora's Box. Your other friends gave you good advice not to open it. : )
