Excerpt: October 23, 1997 (KUALA LUMPUR) -- The Malaysian
government will invest in two separate wafer-fabrication plants with Atmel Corp. and VLSI Technology Inc.

The plants will be the first advanced wafer-fabrication facilities in the country producing 8-inch (diameter), 0.25-micrometer wafers. Both plants will be built in the Kulim Hi-Tech Park, in the northern state of Kedah. They are scheduled to be operational by the third quarter of 1999.
