Warp, waiting till December or late November sounds right to me. Your price range is low by Bay area standards and I think 'reasonably' priced homes won't go down much further.
Mortgages are perhaps as low as they'll get. Even if the value of your home drops another 10% after you buy, it will be temporary. I'm assuming your job is safe. If I was boss, I'd move to Alameda, too, because that's where my sailboat is berthed. :)

Is it possible to lease with option to buy?
