I think you have identified the problem for all high appointed offices. As a rule, IMHO appointees are far more intelligent then the politicos they have to report too. So putting up with those pinheads, having reporters search the most minute portion of their personal life, would be too much to ask of most people. Fortunately we seem to always find someone up to the task for these jobs, but it must be very difficult to find them. jdn
