[Bandwidth and revised Dakin report:]

<<<I don't know if these solutions will eliminate all these problems completely. I have access to the Web via a T1 line. It helps some, but there are plenty of slow servers out there and you can have all the bandwidth in the world and that won't eliminate problems caused by that.>>>

Gary --

You're absolutely right. We're at that stage with Amati where we realize the gorgeous intelligent funny woman we fell in love with not only snores in her sleep but has 3 kids under the age of 5 to support.

Well, all analogies break down at some point. :/

Here's what Joel Achramowicz, Dakin's analyst, says in today's revised Amati report regarding the problems you mention:

<<<
We look for 1997 to be the year when the telcos experiment with various marketing strategies which might be used to implement ADSL on a grand scale. We've mentioned before that the current year will not be a major rollout year; but, it will provide the basis upon which we could see extraordinary growth in demand for ADSL products in 1998. It's important to recognize that many increments must be in place to support immense growth in Internet access: extensive packet switching infrastructure; an effective IP addressing paradigm to support an increasing group of simultaneous users; appropriate routing and switching technology; operational DSLAMs; effective network management software; and, acceptable tariffed-usage pricing. These issues are not trivial, but once the market recognizes the need to address them decisively, we should see more significant advancement in the xDSL sector. We reiterate our BUY investment rating and look for future appreciation in these shares as design wins and product rollouts are announced.>>>

Regards,

Pat
