"The test of an enhanced Euro-Atlantic relationship will be the ability to relaunch the peace process between Israelis and the Palestinians,"

Consider the peculiarity of this statement. The French FM is claiming that the test of improved Euro-American relationships will be a subject that in fact has nothing at all to do with European-American trade, military or political relations - but an external issue concerning the relationship of two third parties.

What they mean of course, is the demand that America join the Europeans in throwing Israel to the wolves in the fond hopes of appeasing the Arabs. I don't think that's going to happen. Notice how Tony Blair has begun to emulate Bush in joining the words "Palestinian" and "democracy", a union never uttered by any French politician.
