No it didn't. The places where they stopped using it for vector control is where the local vectors developed immunity. Usually because it was used for agricultural pests. Which is why it is usually discouraged for agricultural pests. Even when used, it is often restricted to nettings and inside of dwellings because it is a lot more effective and doesn't build immunity quite as quickly as with large scale spraying.

Yeah, I know. Reality is not as thrilling as evil environmentalists dooming entire populations. Myths tend to be that way...
