This started out as a PM, but I decided it would also be useful to post on the thread.

For the most part, Windows 10 and 7 are very comparable in terms of speed and performance where the differences usually boil down to the hardware being used and the software being run. Either one of them can be slightly faster than the other depending on the circumstances.

Win7 does everything I need for now, but Win10 will give more support for future processors and also has Cortana and DirectX 12 for gaming. Additionally, people that upgrade to Win10 now will benefit by getting a jump on the learning curve understanding Microsoft's most modern OS. Furthermore, I will upgrade all my computers to dual-booting Windows 10.

Most people at Computer Learning probably don't understand how I feel about Win10. It really is a decent operating system and most people like it, but I have a lot of old software and it takes me longer than most to transition from one OS to another.

At times I play the devil's advocate discussing Win10, but I also depend a lot on people like Gottfried and Eric L. who have more practical experience with Win10 to balance the bias I sometimes show for Win7.

Everyone has slightly different preferences for software and hardware, but the main things are keeping your options open and maintaining backups so unforeseen circumstances don't back you into a corner.
