The Bank of England raised its base lending rate by a quarter-point, to 7.25 percent, its highest level since Nov. 12, 1992. Base rates set the pace for commercial and retail borrowing costs in Britain. This, the fifth rate rise this year, was unexpected. A Bloomberg News survey of 19 economists showed all but one thought the Bank of England would leave rates on hold. While most economists forecast rates to rise to 7.25 percent by year's end, the central bank was expected to avoid further upsetting volatile stock markets

Happy Trading
