"My response: EMU (I'll assume this is what you meant when you said "a totally different company" correct me if I'm wrong) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Creaf." Seer Systems provides the software synth program. "I'm not entirely sure this is correct (EMU10k1 may after all be just a better wavetable chip) but it looks like it's more like a sound-specific CPU or sorts (DSP?)." Chips like the 10k1 are DSP chips, but specifically designed for audio , so various unnecessary features of a general purpose DSP are left out while more specific features for interpolation and whatnot are inserted. I visited the E-mu booth at NAMM today and the rep told me their card will be available in April 15, so I guess the Creative one will come out either a few weeks before or after that.
