An unproven assumption made in hindsight:

If Al Gore spoke in 2000 the way he spoke yesterday, he would have won the presidency by a wide margin.


If Gore runs, he has to prove to the American people why he isn't going to lose again. Will Tennessee vote for him this time? I don't think middle America believes he won in 2000 whatever the activists turned up in the ex post facto analyses.

It's too early for anyone to make pronouncements about who will win in 2008. This will be the most wide-open presidential race in a long time. I suspect the outcome may be a surprise to us all.
