Really, that's a lot of what we're dealing with -- the emotional aspects of the subject versus the fiscal constraints.

When the proponents say, "At this time in the USA, we OUGHT to be able to provide reasonable medical care for every person in the country" -- who could argue with THAT? It is shameful that we even have to consider money. But we do.

I don't believe it would be that hard to reduce our expenditures by 10-15% without materially altering the level of care we provide. But this political process is poison. You have the Ds wanting it all, and the Rs just trying to prevent us from getting a bureaucracy that is more unmanageable than what we have.

Nobody's thinking about the problem, they're far too busy staking out political positions. I'm guilty. At this point, if the choice is this big government bureaucracy -- which I'm convinced the current plans take us to -- I'd just rather this effort fail and let's try it again [soon] when calmer attitudes prevail.
