One suggestion is that Iraq be broken up into 3 states- -Kurdistan, a Sunni state, and a Shiite state. Not exactly a prospect to fill a Sunni heart with glee, since they are currently the ruling minority, but it would defang Iraq.

Of course, that leaves Iran the dominant power in that area and it's hard to see how that's in our interests.

Is the lack of traffic on this thread an indicaton that fair debate isn't very popular on SI? :-)
