Marty,
<<where does one obtain info on TKD/SAE?>>

The initials SAE actually stand for Stanford Applied Engineering. The company was founded about 14 years ago in San Jose to design thin film and composite heads by a group of engineers from Stanford, thus the name. Nearing bankruptcy the company (which also tried to make thin film media at one time) sold out to Hong Kong interest. In those days Maxtor was a big customer and their main purchasing office for the Singapore operation was in Hong Kong.

The company was resold to TDK in Japan about 6 -7 years ago and has emerged as their primary manufacturing arm for read write heads. They now have 2 million square feet of factory space in Shen Zhen just across the border from Hong Kong. In Peripheral Research's recent report they showed SAE/TDK with a 12% market share versus Read-Rite's 14%. I suspect they will how significant gains for 1998.
Best,
Stitch
