If I was a Thai rice farmer who'd converted my field to a shrimp farm and was making 40 times what rice brought, I'd really like it.

Yes, there is a negative environmental effect from waste water pollution on nearby areas. But that would be a problem for the local government to regulate.

No reason to condemn the entire industry as something that just shouldn't exist.
