I never use it on just battery. I guess it could be static electricity. Can't figure out anything else.

Just for fun I very carefully picked up the iPad and slowly brought it over and rested it on the area in front of the keyboard. The minute it touched the laptop - poof! - the laptop shut down and went to a black screen.

I'll just have to remember to not do that.
