The target has to be defined, found, and then destroyed. We are still in the defining stage. We don't know exactly who, how many, and where. That is going to take time, and the definition could shift and change before it is completed. Once it is completed, the finding stage isn't going to be easy and may be done one small cell at a time. I see this more as a special operations type of war then a traditional war. I agree that Americans find that type of warfare distasteful to say the least.
Another more important target is going to be diplomatic in nature. The Middle East problems have to be solved fairly and at some point in the near future. It is in the interest of all the countries in that area. Terrorists are making them targets along with Israel.
Lastly, the focus on Afghanistan might be correct for the time being, but Ben Baby might be just that. The tool of a greater richer enemy or the fall guy for that state or group of individuals. If Ben and his group of radicals are wiped out, they would just find a replacement for him. Somehow, I think Ben has some sophisticated backers and we need to find them. Terrorist learning to pilot airliners have more education then the average individual. That is a signal to me that these folks are more then the average rock throwers. Big Daddy may be some of the old guard in Iran trying to halt the erosion of their culture. It may be Iraq raising it's ugly head again.
Afghanistan may be just a big diversion. More target definition is needed at this point. A down trodden war torn country with internal warring factions and a tremendously tough terrain is a poor target and everyone knows it. You could blanket bomb the place and destroy nothing of value. The last report I heard said the terrorist's camps are now empty.
