Hi Mike:

I am sure Wi-Lan supporters will challenge me,
but it is not obvious that their patents reach
anywhere as far as they claim. Remember that
OFDM was in existence for a long time (25 years or
so) before Wi-Lan came along. This is also
true of coded-OFDM, which came along in the 1980s.
It is perhaps possible that there is a detail in
Radiata's implementation about which Wi-Lan feels
that it has a claim, but any such claim would be
narrow and probably highly debatable. Also, OFDM
is just a form of multicarrier modulation for
which TXN has large IP claims through is
acquisition of Amati, the company that pioneered
DMT-based DSL.
