USA Today says that President's Bush's approval rating is
back up to 50%.

<<<

President Bush's approval is back at 50% in a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll, up 5 percentage points from the same poll conducted March 21-23. His 45% approval rating in that poll was his lowest in his presidency.

Gallup said the low might have related to Bush's attempted intervention in the case of Terri Schiavo, the brain-damaged Florida woman whose family was fighting over whether to let her die. Polls showed most Americans opposed the government's intervention. The poll released Tuesday was based on survey of 1,010 adults April 4-7. The margin of error was +/-3 points.

That says to me that either many Americans weren't really that mad at Bush about the Schiavo intervention or they have the shortest memories on earth. It could also mean his dip had nothing to do with Schiavo.

Or it could mean none of those things.

But I pointed out here ( qando.net ), approval ratings do have some utility, even for a lame-duck president. That utility can be captured in the phrase "coat tails", especially in the '06 congressional elections.
