It really is hard to get "arms around the problem" because there are SO many different countries, with so many different types and severities of problems.

If some of the areas were hit on a 1-5 block area, I would think the local citizens who lived farther inland could (and should) be out there helping as well as the aid workers.

But it looks like many of the places in Indonesia and on Samatra were just totalled....and killed so many people that it is simply hard to grasp the depths of the disaster.
