At least we can legally supplement with private insurance and still have enough of a private infrastructure to generate capacity and medical advances. In the near term, anyway.

Edit: The reason I was looking to get out of Medicare was not my aversion to socialism. It was strictly practical. Medicare used to have a provision that no doctor could charge someone on Medicare more than Medicare paid. The only way out was to accept no Medicare patients. My doctor accepted no Medicare patients and I wanted to keep her. Fortunately the "commie" authority has since backed off that provision.
