Sandra, this should also help the internet sector:

Alliance to make speech key to Internet commerce

NEW YORK, Oct. 6 (Reuters) - A powerhouse alliance of communications, software and financial services companies said Thursday they plan to create mass access to Internet commerce through products that allow people to speak computer commands instead of typing them on a keyboard.

The companies which include Motorola Inc. (NYSE:MOT - news), Visa International, BroadVision Inc. (Nasdaq:BVSN - news) and Nuance Communications plan to make Internet commerce possible by phone instead of through personal computers, thus breaking down the biggest barrier between consumers and the Internet.

Only around 40 percent of U.S. citizens own personal computers and that figure is much lower in other countries.

With traditional electronic commerce, people have only been able to buy and sell on the Internet when sitting in front of computers.

The companies call their keyboard-busting plan ''V-Commerce'' and argue that people will be able to buy and sell on the Internet by speaking over a telephone or other connected device to an automated speech recognition system.
