All three companies met this week with an ad hoc industry committee formed by the Telecommunications Industry Association and the Electronics Industry Association to try and hammer out a de facto standard for 56Kbps modems. The companies Thursday presented the committee with results of the first tests conducted over real telephone lines that show what speeds users realistically can expect to achieve.

McCartney was quite adamant at the conference call in that they were active participants in all of the official standards meetings, ITU, TIA, EIA, ad hoc, or otherwise.
