Pete, I loved your last sentence. <g> I think the truth is, this is a year where any one of 20 teams can beat the champ on any given day.
What amazes me are good teams that self-destruct. UCLA was looking like a world beater, then totally fell apart, even before they lost their best player. Ditto for Fresno State. Oregon State fell apart after the SI Cover Jinx, then started to look like a world beater late in the season. Many forget that they ripped Washington before Miami did.
The Big Ten having 11 teams is UFB. How can they do that? But have you noticed there are no odd numbers among conferences that count? Big 12, Big 10, Pac 10, etc. No odds. What are the odds? Is it a superstition thing?
I would support a tournament as long as it doesn't become a total scam like the basketball tourney, where the 4th place teams from second rate conferences get invites. The thing had some credibility when it was 16 teams, but now it's a total joke. Also, it has killed the NIT. |
