Off topic ... I will pick my first tomatoes of the season this morning. I have no chickens or chicken manure within miles and do not use materials toxic to humans, but I still wash my tomatoes thoroughly in the kitchen. I know there is no chicken manure around because I don't see it sold in stores and my neighbors don't garden. The soil is too awful except for a gardening fanatic. It amazes me how many pests bother my tomatoes in Florida. Every year something different. This year however, there have no pests so far. It hasn't rained in months, the ground is bone dry several inches deep, and there are no bugs to speak of. El Nino's fault? Charles
