If you don't support what he claims and neither do most other global warming alarmists, then attacks on him are "weakmen" arguments against global warming in general, and strawmen arguments against you and others who don't agree with him. If that was the case you might reasonably try the "last refuge" claim, and worst it would only be a bit silly. But since you say he was right, then your whole "last refuge" idea is very silly. Yes Virginia, the Models Have Overpredicted Warming Uh, no Depends on the data set, the adjustments, and the time period your considering. The "pause" argument does to an extent depend on cherry picking elements of each of those, starting from a short term high point, but so does the argument that the models have correctly predicted warming over the last 10 to 20 years.
