I was intrigued by the Shell project a few months ago. I found these articles, which may interest you:

The environmental issue I don't get is what happens to the water after there is no further need to keep it frozen. It presumably becomes part of the water table again, but it is probably contaminated. How Shell avoids this is unclear.

Per the Denver Post article, Shell is definitely putting a huge amount of money into Colorado land rights, so............
