OJ, I'm looking for some reason to be depressed, please help me!
I'm currently invested for the long term. I'm 56 years old, and have been invested in the market since I was 26. Yes it seems as if I should have some experience, but I go through the messages on Market Gems each, and every day. Everyone sounds as if they are doing better than I. Could this is, I ask myself. Maybe, and then maybe not!
I currently am, and have been for the last few years 90% invested in the S&P 500 index fund, and 10% I use to "Trade" (A better word for trying to beat the experts IMO) But, here is my problem When they started "Lee's" favorite QQQ I looked it over when it started at around 50-52, and :) what a way to play the Tech's I thought. So I took out 40% from my 500 funds, and bought into QQQ at an average of 52 per share. The S&P 500 fund is up quite a bit even with the sell off in the middle of 98. I sold most of my funds, and bought the S&P over 10 years ago, I believe the index was under 200 at the time, and with the sell off this time it's now around 1357, you can figure out the percentage gains? Now my (or should I say Lee's) QQQ is around 80 but I've only owned that one for about 13 months. Now I can figure out this one, because Lee reminds me when he's shorting it, all of the time. <vbg> I think it's up about 54% with this terrific sell off, I might add.
Now lets talk about my 10% percent, being the Expert that I am I held a few to long, and some I sold, and made money on. But in the end I showed a loss (on paper, because I haven?t sold them yet) about 50% of my 10% "trading" account.
With all of that said, I now know why, I can't find a reason to be depressed! I am looking at the Market in the right way. Long term Investment for my children, and myself. Some here seem to be trying to make a living doing this type of thing, If that's the case I suggest that they start something like Jenna has, a job at home that she really, truly enjoys. Trust me, when you have that you can only be successful.
Thanks for letting me lay back on your couch OJ, you have helped me out with my "depressing" problems with my "TRADING ACCOUNT" time and time again. But please stop sending me those little reminders about being past due on my bill. <gg>
