I think it HAS been established that there's a direct cause and effect with fracking.

I don't think it has been, at least not really solidly, and esp. not for serious quakes. If there is such a relationship, it would have to be one of releasing built up potential for quakes early. Your right that people harmed now might be happy to "take one for the team" either to get the benefit of oil and gas, or to get the benefit of lower severity or total avoidance of quakes later on. OTOH I think the quakes in question have caused very little damage, many of them none at all.

There might not be as much time as you think....

Or there might be longer. Generally both the alarmists and the "deniers" (in quotes because many of them don't deny global warming at all, but they get lumped together by the other side), tend to exaggerate the certainty of their opinions.
