<<<Can someone explain to a poor Canuck why a McCain win would be viewed as so much better for the market in some circles than an Obama win ? Is it all about protectionism and taxation ? >>>

More taxation is a certainty but that may not be viewed as a totally bad thing especially when the market can perceive that the Obama economic team can give us a more viable economy than one under an erratic McCain. The market may be able to see that McCain does not have the ability to formulate an economic vision that will get us out of this economic mess that Bush has gotten us into.

However, protectionism is something that Obama will have a tougher time to fight against. I think Obama is smart enough to know that protectionism will be bad for us in the long term, but his supporters will be demanding protectionism.

And we know that his suporters are very passionate and demanding.
