Duncan: You are right. I too think it's rare for many men, me included, to have really close friends. Life is so transitory now that it's difficult to establish really close friendships. I have a number of 'friends', some even 'good friends', but no 'close friends'. One can define in their own way what is a 'close friend'. Mine is my wife and my father. I would depend and confide in no one else in the way I would them.

I think someday RR will go down as a great president. I know the thought to be repulsive to some but he will just the same-if not here then surely in Russia. RR is perceived to be the catalyst, not Gorbachev as the RR haters would have you believe, that provoked the Soviet Union to take the path it did that led to where they are now. I don't know if you saw 60 Minutes last night but I was amazed just how far Russia has come since the change. 60 Minutes showed a side of Russia's development not shown on the 'doom and gloom' major network news shows (I may be mistaken since I don't watch that 30 minutes of pap any more). I think they are past the point of no return and will show an incredible rate of growth over the next 20 years or so. I would like to know how to invest in the future growth of Russia. Any Ideas?

Marlin Fitzwater commented in his book, Call The Briefing, that when he worked with RR he never once heard him say a bad word or a snide remark about anybody. I wish I could say the same. I'll never forget the time when during a press conference in his second term Sam Donaldson quoted a most disparaging and insulting comment about RR from someone of influence (I'm sorry but don't remember the quote or the source but I do remember it was unprecedented for its pure intent to hurt) and asked for RR's comment. RR was completely taken aback-the look on his face.... Could one even imagine RR hiring PIs to investigate someone who disagreed with him or hiring the attack dogs we now see defending the current president?

Regards,

halfscot
