I like new cars.
I like them immaculate. That first chip or sign of upholstery wear is tough on me. It's like an implied reminder of my own mortality. My current ride is five months young, and it has a single. eentsy. gravel strike on the hood, far forward between grille and headlamp. Primer's ok; I'll hafta buy some touch-up paint soon.
Spouse got her car brand-new in '96. Now it has a dozen Surface Features, and the upholstery is visibly worn. Fifty-sixty concours points, gone like water in the Panamint Valley in July.

Next car I get, like a Benz or something, I'll buy three years used. That way, those tiny nicks and scuffs will be there, and i won't suffer from generalized smooth muscle clench when I park at the mall.
