You know, I'm thinking even that wouldn't do it. The prospect of repeated anthrax attacks on postal workers, enough to cause significant disruption in mail delivery (one of those background services on which our life-style depends), that counts as "Another near term major terrorist attack". Not a lot of dead (yet), but certainly a lot of disruption. All our leaders have been saying to expect a long war, and polls say almost all Americans expect more attacks.

These would cause panic selling:
1. bursting of the housing bubble, which would end home refis, hurt consumer confidence and spending a lot more than is currently expected.
2. anything else that pushes out the expected 2H02 recovery into 2003.
3. the perception that we will lose this war (not just lose occasional battles).

If the above happens, we're looking at Nas 1000.

But random volatility (different than panic selling) can move the Nas up or down 200 points in any given week.
