Something wrong with that story.......hospitals have to justify a reason to keep you in the hospital that keeps you at least 2 nights......they can't keep you for just one night. Your example says they're getting away with it for 2 years and the hospital itself says it's not necessary..... the 2 night rule was put in place to keep hospitals from scamming the system with excessive one night stays.... i-node told the story of what he had to do to get a hospital to admit his very sick mother overnight when they had a power failure in Little Rock........

The hospital in your link says they have to keep her because she has no insurance and is an undocumented immigrant..... Sounds like part of the argument to have universal coverage...if she were still back in Poland she wouldn't have such a problem.......... And I find it impossible to believe that it's cases like hers that are the reason for the rate increases........in my experience she's fairly unique...
