Meta Group sees downturn in global IT spending
one.digital.cnet.com
Worldwide spending on information technology is falling and
likely to move sharply lower next year amid a global economic
downturn, according to a research report issued on Tuesday by
the Meta Group Inc. In its newest Worldwide IT Trends &
Benchmark Report, the Stamford, Connecticut-based research
and consulting firm projects that U.S. businesses will cut
total IT spending by between 2 percent and 5 percent in 2002,
compared with an estimated 8 percent increase in 2001. The
firm also is forecasting that total IT spending among non-
U.S. businesses likely will be flat in 2002, compared with a
6 percent increase in 2001.
