Well my Plano, TX friend I think that if you look at what most of these articles say about Win98 is that some hardware needs new drivers. I will say that this can be a very frustrating event for a end user but with the sheer volume of different hardware out there that Win98 will run on it is a fairly amazing engineering accomplishment that ma & pa's homebrew PC runs great with Win98. If you look at NT (which I love) has a much more restrictive hardware compatibility list and these issues may be reduced. The same should hold true with SUNW & AAPL machines where they own both the hardware and software and should be able to make this a non-issue, but System7 for the Mac was quite a difficult upgrade for many users.
